Stock status of March 22nd 2025
PS2 Slim Spare flexes are on pre-order.  Shipping is expected in April.

Successor to N64 Digital, PS1 Digital and DC Digital etc. but now in PS2 form.

The Retro GEM is the ultimate HDMI kit for your retro gaming consoles.

  • Digital lag-free HDMI output
  • Simple firmware update procedure via WiFi
  • Advanced scaling and video filters in Shiny Edition
  • Native Direct video in Basic Edition.  Perfect for people who already own an external scaler.

This kit can be installed into both Fat and Slim Playstation 2 models.  However there are some restrictions. The following motherboards are available.

  • GH-032 (SCPH-7000X)
  • GH-035 (SCPH-7000X)
  • GH-036 (SCPH-7500X)
  • GH-037 (SCPH-7500X)
  • GH-040 (SCPH-7500X)
  • GH-040 (SCPH-7500X)
  • GH-041 (SCPH-7700X)
  • GH-051 (SCPH-7700X)
  • GH-052 (SCPH-7700X)
  • GH-061 (SCPH-7900X) 2*
  • GH-062 (SCPH-7900X) 2*

2* requires the 79K console kit.  This is now no longer a seperate addon in the replacement parts.  It is included in the full 79k console kit now.

The mini HDMI output setup :

  • no cut -> sacrifice 56k modem port (only applies to slim models with 56k modem)
  • cut -> Cut hole in case back (only applies to slim models without 56k modem)

The spare flex isn't required and is already included in the console kit. But sometimes mishaps happen during the install and an extra flex will give you a second attempt.

The Retro GEM must be soldered into your gaming console. These modifications are advanced and require a high level of soldering skill. Never soldered before, do not fret! We have recommended installers that can do the modification for you. You can see our full list of installers at the bottom of the details page.  This installation is extremely difficult and thus the installation is broken apart between PS2 slim and PS2 Fat.

The basic can be upgraded to the Shiny at any time, even after installing into a console.  Upgrades can be purchased here or through the GEM kits on screen display.
